Chile Earthquake Chile Latest News and Chile Map

Chile Map

Chile is shook on Saturday by a huge earthquake that measured 8.8 on the Richter scale. It was reported before by the US Geological Survey that the earthquake had the magnitude of 8.3. City of Concepcion was the epicenter of the earthquake which is 212 miles away from the Santiago which is the capital city.

Concepcion is the second largest city & it's a population of 200,000. A tsunami warning has been issued for Chile by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center as it is situated on the coasts. This warning is also for Peru & Ecuador as Chile, Peru & Ecuador are lying in the same stretch.

Chile earthquake vibrated the capital where buildings were affected for around 20 seconds. Electricity as well as telecommunication process was also said to be affected. After Haiti earthquake this earthquake came so soon & it should be realized after having an experience with the Haiti earthquake with a magnitude of 7.0 having killed 230,000 people that the rescue efforts should be made without any delay.

U.S. Geological Survey said that the earthquake having such a high magnitude would tie for 7th on the list having the biggest earthquake ever recorded. US National Weather Service said in a statement that the same sized earthquake could generate a destructive tsunami & within minutes it could strike coastlines near the epicenter & more distant coastlines within hours. In 1960 largest earthquake having a magnitude of 9.5 affected Chile & resulted in the deaths of around 1655 people. The earthquake that came today was in the same area.

Still there's no reports regarding the casualties & the extent of damage. It will be miracle if the death toll in the Chile earthquake remains at zero.
