Danny Gokey Visits American Idol Season 9
The second elimination show of American Idol season 9 aired Thursday night on FOX. AI season 8's third place finisher Danny Gokey returned to perform his single My Best Days are Ahead of Me, and of course, four contestants - two guys and two girls -- received their walking papers, leaving just 16 hopefuls left to compete for the coveted title of American Idol.
AI's second elimination show kicked off with the top 20 contestants' rendition of the Black Eyed Peas hit I Gotta Feelin'. How it 'felt' was a little too High School Musical, a lot too Glee and way too campy, but that's the way it goes. At least the top 20 had another chance to practice their performance skills.
The first round of week two American Idol elimination action saw Tim Urban saved right off the bat, while Todrick Hall was left standing. Michael Lynche, who excelled on Tuesday night, was told to have a seat on the couch. Casey James was also proclaimed safe, leaving John Park standing with Todrick Hall staring down the barrel of elimination. Ultimately, John got the boot.
The big highlight of John's American Idol season 9 experience was "Shania Twain" and meeting his fellow season 9 cast mates. His Gravity sing off was soulful and heartfelt, and it was heartbreaking to see his family watching from the sidelines. John Park absolutely went out on a high note.
The second elimination of the AI season 9 second results show followed shortly thereafter. Lee Dewyze, Simon's favorite among the guys and one of the season's top prospects, was the first of the bunch Ryan Seacrest proclaimed safe. Aaron Kelly and Alex Lambert quickly followed suit, leaving Andrew Garcia and Jermaine Sellers in danger. Andrew and Jermaine left standing. After the requisite dramatic pause, Jermaine Sellers was eliminated. During his exit interview, Jermaine the church singer stuck to his roots, claiming his firm belief that "in God there is no failure... I leave here happy". He went out with a jazzy version of Marvin Gaye's What's Going On that impressed more than it distressed.

Jake Delhomme Released
Despite giving Jake Delhomme a contract extension last offseason that included $20 million in guaranteed money, the Panthers have released the veteran quarterback.
As first reported by Fox Sports' Jay Glazer, Carolina decided to part ways with their much-maligned QB prior to the start of free agency.
Moore, not coincidentally, was given the highest tender possible this week by the Panthers -- a first- and third-round tender. A restricted free agent, Moore, 25, threw four TDs and two picks in two starts for Carolina in 2009 and seemed prepared to battle Delhomme for the beginning spot in 2010.
Delhomme signed a five-year, $42.5 million extension in 2009, despite committing two turnovers in Carolina's playoff loss to Texas weeks earlier. He threw 18 interceptions this past season -- compared to four touchdowns -- and finally lost his beginning job to Matt Moore.
Delhomme's pending release no doubt means that the Panthers will turn their offense over to Moore.
John Patrick Bedell dead
WASHINGTON (AP)- A gunman coolly drew a weapon from his pocket and opened fire at a security checkpoint in to the Pentagon on Thursday in a point-blank attack that wounded two police officers before the suspect was fatally shot.
The two officers suffered grazing wounds and were being treated in a hospital, said Richard Keevill, chief of Pentagon police. The shooter, identified as John Patrick Bedell, 36, of Los angeles, died hours after being admitted to a hospital in critical condition, authorities said. They had no motive for the shooting.
The shooter walked up to the checkpoint at the Pentagon's subway entrance in an apparent attempt to get inside the massively fortified Defense Department headquarters. "He reached in his pocket, pulled out a gun and started shooting" no over three feet away, Keevill said. "He walked up cold. They had no real emotion on his face." The Pentagon officers returned fire with semiautomatic weapons.
Bedell's death was confirmed early Friday by Beverly Fields, chief of staff of the D.C. medical examiner's office; and Leigh Fields, medical legal investigator for the office. Both said Bedell's body had arrived at the medical examiner's office.
The assault at the threshold of the Pentagon -- the U.S. capital's ground zero on Sept. 11, 2001 -- came two months after a deadly attack on the Army's Fort Hood, Los angeles, post allegedly by a U.S. Army psychiatrist with radical Islamic leanings. In the immediate aftermath Thursday, investigators did not think terrorism was involved but were not ruling that out and did not discuss possible motives.
President Barack Obama was closely following the case with updates from the FBI through his homeland security and counterterrorism adviser, John Brennan," White House spokesman Nick Shapiro said.

Raffi Torres Traded to Sabres
The Columbus Blue Jackets have traded forward Raffi Torres to the Buffalo Sabres. In Torres, the Sabres get a gritty personality forward who’ll help boost their momentum.
Elliote Friedman is reporting that Nathan Paetsch and a second round pick went over to Columbus in exchange for Torres, so the deal does indeed look to benefit the Sabres more.
Considering Torres’ contributions in the past with the Oilers and on Columbus, he gives the Sabres a nice physical angle that they can use to hammer out space for their forwards.
It’s not a blockbuster deal by any extent, but it doesn’t look like many big names will be moving on this particular trade deadline day.

Brutha is back with a new video
Brutha is back with a new video showing fans how they'd spend their last day on Earth.
The R&B group will debut the lip for “One Day on Earth,” today on "BET's 106 & Park." The song is first single from their upcoming album Vacancy. The romantic ballad was penned by R.Kelly, and it talks about a man who wants to spend his last day alive with the love of his life.
The lead single off of any album usually sets the tone for the rest of the project, so Brutha thought this would be the perfect single to herald their return.
“We believe as artists you should come with your guns drawn, and ‘One Day On This Earth’ is our big song,” said Papa. “It’s only right that we come with it first. It’s a big love song.

Eric Massa suddenly dropped his reelection bid Wednesday
Eric Massa suddenly dropped his reelection bid Wednesday, citing health concerns, as allegations surfaced that he sexually harassed a male staffer.
Massa, a 20-year veteran of the Navy, vehemently denied charges reported by Politico and leaked to the Daily News by sources on both sides of the political aisle.
Massa, a Democrat, said he's retiring because of a recurrence of cancer, which he had beaten before. He implied if there was harassment, it was verbal, not physical.
"Do I or have I ever used salty language when I'm angry?" he said. "Yes, I have, and I have apologized to those where it's appropriate."
Politico, citing House aides, said the married father of two allegedly made unwanted advances toward a junior male staffer.
Massa slammed reports of the sexual nature of the harassment.
"Those kinds of articles, unsubstantiated, without factual backing, are a symptom of what's wrong with this city," he said. He also said he was entering a "a final phase" of his life.
The news came as a body blow to New York Democrats, who are already reeling under the weight of scandals all around the state.
A top Washington Democrat compared Massa, 50, to disgraced former GOP Rep. Mark Foley, who quit in 2006 amid charges of sending sexually explicit messages to male congressional pages.
"Massa just killed us," the Democrat said. "It's like what Foley did to them in the last cycle." That scandal tainted numerous Republicans who were accused of covering up for Foley.
Sources told The News that Massa's activities are being investigated, but Massa said yesterday he did not know if he was being looked at by the House ethics committee.
The freshman congressman barely defeated GOP Rep. Randy Kuhl to win his heavily Republican western New York district in 2008. He said he was announcing his retirement early to give others a chance to run.
But with no apparent replacement, it seems likely the GOP will take the seat back.
"Today, Eric Massa became the latest in a growing list of New York Democrats to abandon public life under a cloud," said state GOP Chairman Ed Cox. "With each passing day, it appears New York Democrats are being consumed by a culture of corruption."

Eri Yoshida Meets Tim Wakefield
Eighteen-year-old knuckleballer Eri Yoshida, the first woman drafted by a Japanese team, was in Fort Myers today to meet the man who inspired her to pitch.
Back in November 2008, Tim Wakefield said they hoped to see her pitch three day. Today, after Yoshida watched his side session, they returned the favour:
They spun a couple, but for the most part, it was very lovely. They could take the spin out of a lot of them and they had a lot of movement on them. \.\. I had seen film of her and I was impressed at the film. But to see her in person and to actually see her throw, I was very impressed with how they threw and the knowledge they had on the knuckleball, because they told me they was self-taught. This is the first time she is actually ever had coaching throwing a knuckleball. I kind of know where she is at, because I was there when I first started throwing -- nobody knew what to do.
Yoshida:
I never thought I could ever feel this happy.
Yoshida spent the winter pitching for the Yuma Scorpions of the Michigan Winter League. In her second start, on February 11, they threw three shutout innings against Team Canada.
Verizon Outage strikes nationwide
"I haven't had Net or email access all morning (4:30 am EST when I woke up). How mournful that this could happen," a user in Cincinnati wrote today on a Droid forum. "How pathetic that Verizon doesn't post something up on their site." Judging by the message boards, the Midwest and South seem to have been hit harder by the outages than the coasts. "Mine started going haywire last night," an Los angeles Droid fan posted this morning.
Hundreds of consumers are flocking to online discussion boards to document a Verizon outage across the carrier's network, a problem that Verizon says it is working to fix. Outage time appears to vary, but some Verizon users say they have been unable to access the Web or email for hours. Crucially, the issues center on faulty Net and information connections – Verizon phone service appears to be unaffected.
Tim Stevens at Engadget confirms that Verizon is aware of the outages, although the company has not said how soon the issues could be resolved. "We'd advise not calling and bothering the support folks about this – based on how long they were on hold we are guessing they have their hands full at the moment," Stevens counselled. Lots of forum participants seem to agree, although that has not stopped others from flooding switchboards with complaints.
The outage comes at a time when Verizon is jostling with AT&T for shares of the US market. AT&T, of coursework, has outage problems of its own: Heavy traffic from iPhone users has bogged down the AT&T information network. Meanwhile, there's widespread concerns that the forthcoming Apple iPad, which will utilize a 3G connection, could bring AT&T information speeds to a screeching halt.
Another take on this story: Keeping modern, networked systems up and walking is hard. As features grow, so does complexity. look at the Sony PlayStation Network problem that crippled PS3s Sunday night. A simple clock bug temporarily turned lots of consoles in to fancy bricks.

Nissan to Recall 540, 000 Vehicles over All
TOKYO Nissan Motor Co Japan's third-biggest automobile maker, said it will recall about 540,000 vehicles worldwide due to potential defects in brake pedal pins and fuel-gauge components, mostly in the United States.
Nissan said one models from 2008 to 2010 model years, including the Titan truck and Armada SUV, would be recalled due to the risk of the brake pedal pins partially disengaging, causing a loss of normal braking ability.

Lisa Ellis Pictures
Marie Claudinette demanded her hip-hop star husband fire Lisa Ellis after finding the sexy shot, sources told the Every day News.
"Fugees" star Wyclef Jean may be in trouble at home after his wife discovered a nude picture of his attractive manager on his mobile phone, sources said.
"Claudinette flew in to a jealous anger," claimed six insider. "She jumped to the conclusion that something may be up between Wyclef & Lisa. They told Lisa to stay away from her husband. To embarrass Lisa, they also e-mailed the nude picture to a quantity of people in the music business."
Ellis insisted her relationship with the Grammy-winning Jean has always been strictly professional.
Although the Fugees have long broken up, Jean has been in the spotlight for his efforts on behalf of his native Haiti after a devastating earthquake.
"Photographer Mark Baptiste took a portrait of me in December 2008 for an art book," Ellis said. "It was tastefully completed. Someone leaked the photo. I don't know who did it, but the photo had nothing to do with my resignation as Wyclef Jean's manager."
"Wyclef is spending all his time inspiring others to rebuild Haiti. We are not commenting on any of these rumors," said Jean's spokesman, Ken Sunshine.
Jean & his manager parted ways about two weeks ago.
The black-and-white nudie photo, which The News has seen, shows Ellis standing facing forward with her hands crossed over her nether regions.
A mate described Ellis, who has a fella, as "mortified."
"Lisa has no issue with Claudinette."
"She resigned because they was not happy with the way Wyclef was conducting himself. They wasn't listening to her advice," the mate said.
The 37-year-old Wyclef married Claudinette, a fashion designer, in 1994. They have a daughter & renewed their vows in August 2009.
They were together as recently as Friday, arriving together to the NAACP Picture Awards, where Jean was honored.
Ellis, who historicallyin the past dated former congressman Harold Ford, had been helping Jean run his Carnival House entertainment company. Before that, they served as Executive VP of Sony Music Label Group & President of Sony Urban Music.

Marie Osmond Son Stephen
Michael Blosil left behind a suicide note. Blosil had reportedly suffered depression. Michael was the second child adopted by Marie. In one of these more recent pictures, Michael is the middle age child standing in the front with the stripped vest sweater.
The couple had ended their marriage of nearly 20 years. Michael Blosil was one of eight children, and one of five adopted.
Michael Blosil’s father Brian and Marie issued the following statement roughly two years ago about their divorce “Our marriage has always been a faithful one, and neither of us is assigning fault for the divorce.”
Olive Marie Osmond (born October 13, 1959) is an American actress, singer, doll designer, and a member of the show business family, The Osmonds. Although she was never part of her family’s singing group, she gained success as a solo country music artist in the 1970s and 1980s. Her best known song is a cover of the country pop ballad “Paper Roses.” In 1976, she and her singer brother Donny Osmond began hosting the TV variety show Donny & Marie.
There have been conflicting reports about whether Blosil may have struggled with depression. Vernon said he did not have any information.
“He’s dealing with a lot of issues,” she told CNN’s Larry King at the time. “I don’t feel comfortable talking for him. I think he’ll have to deal with that.”
Osmond did say one of the issues troubling him was the fact that he was adopted.
“He is the most amazing kid …,” she added before beginning to cry.
Osmond herself has struggled with depression over the years, as she disclosed in her 2001 book, “Behind the Smile: My Journey Out ofPostpartum Depression.”
Blosil was one of Osmond’s five adopted children. She also has three other children from two marriages. Osmond divorced Brian Blosil in 2007 after two decades of marriage. She and her first husband, Stephen Craig, divorced in 1985.
In a statement after his death, Osmond said she and her family were in shock. Her publicist declined to provide any additional comment from Osmond on Monday.
Osmond earned fame at age 13 with the hit song “Paper Roses,” and starred with her brother, Donny, on television’s “Donny and Marie Show” during the 1970s.
The siblings perform a musical variety show regularly at the Flamingo Las Vegas Hotel and Casino. The hotel said the shows were canceled over the weekend and performances would resume on March 9.
Chelsea King Body Found
Its really sad news that Chelsea King's body was believed to have been found Tuesday in what's described as a "shallow grave". The missing teen Chelsea King was just 17 years old and reportedly went for a jog in the park and vanished.
The Washington Post reports "Police said evidence has linked 30-year-old John Albert Gardner III to both cases (this one and one in Colorado) but further details have not been released."
Nancy Grace on HLN reports that the charges were filed before the body was found. The San Diego County Sheriff's office explains that evidence was found linking John Albert Gardner to Chelsea King. Nancy Grace on HLN has a lively discussion on this where he's described as a "30-year-old scumbag".
Yikes!
This is shockingly like the case of Chandra Levy, who, like Chelsea King, went for a jog by herself in May 2001 in Washington DC and disappeared. The bottom line is that no one, male or female, should run alone in a secluded park. But in this case, it's too late for that. This is sad, really sad, and awful.

Chile earthquake Earth Axis
The Chile Earthquake that rocked the South American country and claimed hundreds of lives may also have shortened the length of a day on Earth by moving the planet's axis by about 3 inches. NASA Scientist Richard Gross says the 8.8-magnitude earthquake may have made our planet's days shorter by 1.26 microseconds. The Earth's rotation was likely affected by the shift in the planet's mass, which could cause it to spin faster.
While the planet's tilt influences the seasons, allowing for winter, spring, summer and fall, scientists say it would take a far greater change in the Earth's axis to affect them.
Scientists believe other quakes, such as the 2004 9.1-magnitude earthquake in Sumatra, have also decreased the Earth's day. That quake is believed to have shortened it by 6.8 microseconds, and altered the axis by nearly 7 inches.

Dr Seuss Birthday
In honor of his 106th birthday , let us present to you "The Dr. Seuss Rap (Wubble Down)." Not only is it based on Seuss's rhyming scheme and filled with all the appropriate references, but it's a pretty catchy tune, too. Throw in some hot ladies and a detour in Beastie Boys territory, and we're sold. Happy birthday to Seuss, indeed. (Thanks Trevor C.!)

Texas Independence Day
Today is the 174 anniversary of Texas’ Independence from Mexico.
In schools today, projects are planned at the fourth and seventh grade levels — the grades in which Texas History is taught.
“Texas Independence Day is a critical part of the TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills) for fourth and seventh grade Texas History,” said Stephen Foster, instructional specialist in social studies for the Comal Independent School District. “At the fourth grade level, you’ll have teachers doing more of the crafts-oriented projects. With the seventh grade, you get more of the intellectual level (historic figures and places),” in the classes, he said.
Statewide, the standardized testing of students on Texas history has waned, though not in the standards for the curriculum, Foster said.
The Texas Assessment of Academic Skills, or TAAS test, the precursor to the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills, or TAKS, the current standardized test in the state, emphasized more competency in Texas history and historic figures in the eighth-grade year.
Now the TAKS test “is more U.S. history, just discussing Texas’ role in western expansion and slavery,” Foster said.
On March 2, 1836, the Texas Declaration of Independence was signed at Washington-on-the-Brazos by 59 signatories — Sam Houston along with 58 other representatives.
Like the United States Declaration of Independence, the Texans’ declaration contains a statement on the nature of government, a list of grievances, and a final declaration of independence, according to the Handbook of Texas Online. The welfare of the state of Coahuila had taken precedent over that of Texas, they argued. Also listed among their grievances was that the Mexican government had failed to provide a system of public education, trial by jury and freedom of religion. The declaration even charged that the Mexican government had incited native populations — the Comanche and other tribes — to massacre the settlers from the United States.
Houston convinced the signers that the declaration would give them some basis of legality and would help draw more help from the United States
Today, also happens to be the birthday of Sam Houston. He was born on March 2, 1793 in Virginia. He is the only person in U.S. history to be governor of two states, Tennessee and Texas, a U.S. Senator and the president of a foreign nation — the Republic of Texas.

Susan Dey
NBC's The Today Show features another "big family" in its "Great TV Families reunited" series. This morning, its the The Partridge Family, with the cast of the popular television families reuniting after several decades. But where's Susan Dey?
Susan Dey (not Susan Day), isn't joining the rest of her former castmates as the Partridge Family reunites.
Susan Dey has had, at least in public, a personal life free of the problems that so often plague child stars.
Dey was a big television star (and the object of adolescent lust) during her run as Laurie Partridge and then went on to even bigger stardom in her role as Judge Grace Van Owen on the 1980's hit drama LA Law. While Dey was a popular figure among the boys (and girls) while on The Partridge Family, her role on LA Law made her a darling of the critics.
After her run on LA Law ended in the early 1990's, however, Dey has maintained a relatively low profile. Dey's most recent television role, in fact, came in 2004 when she appeared on two episodes of Third Watch.
For a star who bridged two eras, and did it brilliantly, and for one who seemed to live a scandal free personal life, Susan Dey was an actress that seemed poised to continue acting forever. Beautiful, talented, and even blessed with a show business name, Dey had 'sure thing' written all over her. The fact that she has had no major roles since the demise of LA Law is one of the great mysteries of modern entertainment.
It could be that Susan Dey decided to duck out of the limelight to enjoy life with her husband. It could be that she just got tired of the business. It could be that the offers did not come the way most assumed that they would.

Nancy benoit hustler Pictures
It seems only yesterday when nude photos of Nancy Benoit were published on Hustler Magazine. It became highly controversial then because the magazine got it on print after Nancy was killed by her husband, wrestler Chris Benoit.
The crime happened years ago, when Chris killed his wife, their son and then himself in 2007.
When Hustler published photos of nude 20-year-old Nancy Benoit, her family filed a federal lawsuit against Hustler’s publisher, Larry Flynt Publishing Group. Now the Supreme Court is allowing the lawsuit to proceed.
In October 2008, a federal judge ruled in favor of the Hustler and dismissed the lawsuit with the conclusion that the magazine had the right to publish the nude photos because Nancy’s death was a “legitimate matter of public interest and concern.” But last year, Atlanta-based 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals reversed that ruling and now says that the magazine had no right to publish those photos.

Jordan Leopold
Leopold, the 29-year-old defenseman, was a second-round pick in 1999 by the Anaheim Ducks. This would appear to be Shero's way of adding bulk & size to the blue line by acquiring the 6'0", 200 lbs defenseman. His 59 hits would place him third on the team for defensemen behind Brooks Orpik & Kris Letang.
With the emotions from the gold medal game still pumping through the blood, Ray Shero begins the trade deadline fun with the acquisition of Jordan Leopold of the Florida Panthers, as reported by NHL.com.
Leopold's stat line looks like this: 61 Games, 7 G, 11 A, 18 PTS, - 7, 22 PIM, & 1 PP Aim.
The cost for Leopold was steep, a second-round pick in the 2010 draft. The fact that Leopold's contract is up at the finish of the year doesn't help the situation any, either. I believe this would lead to another trade. With Leopold on the blue line, that leaves four of the Pen's other defensemen out in the icy.
With only $1.750 million for the year, the Pens could trade any of their blue liners as all are more expense than Leopold. My guess would be that the acquisition would make Mark Eaton expendable.
Minnesota Mn appliance rebate
mn appliance rebates, appliance rebate mn, appliance rebate, warners stellian, appliance rebates.
The Minnesota Appliance Rebate Program is funded with more than $5 million in federal stimulus funds, and will enable more than 25,000 Minnesota households to receive up to $200 for replacing certain appliances with energy-efficient models. It provides $200 for a clothes washer, $150 for a dishwasher, up to $100 for a freezer, and up to $200 for a refrigerator. People must go online or call starting Monday to sign up to participate.
The program is expected to save an annual amount of more than 2.2 million kilowatt hours of energy, nearly 44 million gallons of water and more than 4.7 million pounds of carbon. But for consumers, it’s a chance to save some money on a much-needed appliance. For retailers, it is a chance to bring some money back in the door.
“People have been holding off until the rebate,” said Dave Volkman, owner of Volkman Appliance. “It’s almost made things slower.”
Customers started asking about the rebate program in October, he said. The inquires grew to about 20 a day.
“With as many people who have been out asking, when that site opens, they are not going to last long,” Volkman said.
To go along with the rebate, Volkman is offering tax-free sales for the first three days of the program.
At Sears, manager Nick Northey has seen the anticipation build for customers and retailers as time nears. At least a dozen people a day ask about the program.
“If it’s half as good for appliances as it was for the auto industry, I’m excited,” he said.
The only thing that worries Northey is that not enough Winona County residents will sign up in time.
“My dream is that every house in Winona and the surrounding area gets on and reserves a rebate,” he said.
Sears will be offering a few other sales to go along with the rebate, such as 15 percent off all appliances, no interest for 12 months if a Sears card is used or 5 percent off energy star appliances.
“There’s no better time to buy these appliances,” Northey said. “It’s a once-in-a-long-time opportunity. I would just hate to see residents look back and say ‘If only.’”

Pinellas County Schools
Pinellas County Schools : BROOKSVILLE – As district officials grilled Ryan Wilson on the exchange of text messages with a student, nature, technical trainer in a secondary school teacher and former coach of the athletic director told him that he can use the technology at work.
“I was told to communicate with a cell phone,” Wilson said officials in the last month.
Wilson had been cleared of allegations that he had had an improper relationship with a girl, but temporary inspector Sonia Jackson scolded him for, among other things, the continuation of what it described as “inappropriate text messaging and extensive.”
There are no clear rules governing the use of text messages in Hernando County or State staff handbook or code of conduct and professional ethics. Educators are left to the application of the guidelines and limited, and board member of one school, it was the meaning of “common” to text messages.
“It’s a gray area,” said Joe Vitalo, President of the Teachers Syndicate Hernando classroom.
Now that just about every student has a cell phone, and teachers who also serve as coaches or other extracurricular activities would find text messaging to be a convenient way to send your practice to quickly cancel or reschedule a rehearsal, Vitalo said.
Teachers and trainers are concerned, with the attention brought by the Wilson case, should not be text messages to all students.
“However, it was a gift from heaven,” said Vitalo.
School Board members Jackson say that the time has come to clarify the text when an occasion like this, what kind of content is outside the border.
Jackson said she could imagine a policy that would allow only text to communicate information to logistics. Otherwise, teachers may find themselves in embarrassing situations – or at least the appearance of one, she said.
“I think with a policy in place, it does make staff think twice.”

Many of the teachers have texted her way to the types of headlines that make parents and educators cringe.
In 2008, accused in the northern port of a high school teacher in an attempt to seduce a girl via text messages. The girl told police she and Teacher, have routinely exchanged letters until they turned sexual.
In the last month, was sentenced a former Pinellas County middle school teacher for five years probation for sending sexually explicit texts to a student in eighth grade last year.
And Eric Riggins, a former track coach in school suspension in the monitoring of Hernando High, and I learned last month that he will likely lose their teaching certificate, in part, to send sexual texts to a female student.
Still, I found some Florida counties have policies that express provision. Includes Hillsborough, Pasco and Pinellas counties.
“We warn the teacher about this type of communication, but we also know it would be useful for the teacher, who is director of the division or coach,” said Linda Cobbe said a spokeswoman for Hillsborough schools. He added: “It’s just a matter where we must be vigilant.”
Springstead High principal Susan Duval said it was the same message to the staff at the beginning of each academic year.
“Stories of the types of text messages, I think, serve a very useful type of purpose,” said Duval, “but when it gets to the realm of the personal, as the need for teacher professional be extremely careful.”
Central High School Athletic Director Jeff Spivey said he supports limited use of SMS for the logistics, but added that coaches should be text messages and the same phone for a parent, too.
“It’s certainly a good use of technology,” said Spivey.

“But the children who have access to employee personal cell phones,” and said: “It is a recipe for disaster.”

At least parts of the few schools in the country has gone intolerance.
In 2008, officials of the schools in Lamar County, Miss., agreed to a policy forbidding teachers and students of the existence of any text message conversations or social networking friendships. At the bottom of the story of the Internet reporting this development on the CBS News Web site, and the reader to that publication:

Contest at 6 PM in the theater Scott.
Yes, I will help you deliver the slide show to your brother’s funeral.
School board member Diane Bonfield Hernando says it is ready to go on the road to Lamar County, Miss. She said she hoped the issue would make it a written policy on the agenda of a workshop later this year.
“I do not think it’s appropriate to get in touch with students in all mobile phones through,” said Bonfield. “It is for the protection of everyone.”
To punish teachers for the actions of some teachers who may have violated the policy anyway, “said Vitalo, and the President of the local teachers union. Wilson case is a reminder that this means that teachers need to be careful and reporting provisions of unwanted charges against them, he said.
“But it should not prohibit us from communicating with the players and students,” said Vitalo.
Board member Sandra Nicholson said the previous cases show that not all teachers can be trusted with governance.
“If they do not have common sense, it must be in writing,” said Nicholson.

Ides of March
The Ides of March was a festive day dedicated to the god Mars and a military parade was usually held. In modern times, the term Ides of March is best known as the date that Julius Caesar was assassinated in 709 AUC or 44 B.C. In William Shakespeare’s play Julius Caesar, Caesar is warned to “beware the Ides of March.
Or civilian-military Ides of March in Turkey
Prosecutors arresting prosecutors. Dozens of active and retired military officers rounded up. Angry generals. Accusatory politicians. Breathless exclamations lamenting an “attack on democracy,” or the threat of “Shariah law.” And that was just the past few days.
If Turks have a hard time tracking the skirmishing amid the military, the judiciary and the government, outsiders and the newly initiated will find the intricacies of Turkish politics all but mind-numbing. So let’s take it slowly.
Much of the political hyperventilation of recent days turns on the “Balyoz” (Sledgehammer) Operation, an alleged military coup plot dating to 2003 that has been shaking the country for the last five weeks.
The plot was initially revealed Jan. 20 by the feisty daily Taraf, a young newspaper that has persistently focused on critiquing the Turkish military. The alleged plot to remove the Justice and Development Party, or AKP, from power by destabilizing the country included raising tension between Turkey and Greece in the Aegean Sea by having a Turkish fighter plane shot down, bombing two significant mosques in Istanbul during prayer time and staging an organized assault on a military museum by agents dressed as extremists.
Was this seriously considered once upon a time? Or were some disgruntled and powerless officers simply having a scenario jam session that no one should take seriously? In a nutshell, this is the debate that has ensued around many Turkish tables, coffeehouse backgammon games and student teahouses in recent weeks. Source

First day of spring 2010
Today is March 1 - the first day of spring. At last! The cold winter is over, weather is changing for the better. When writing these words, I'm hiding myself from the bright beams of sun. It's already so warm outside (usually it's not).
Spring's coming!
We are making plans for future, we are waiting for the best! So, let's enjoy this beautiful season, because it will help a lot to become or, for someone, to remain an optimist, as it is the nature's awakening.
Try to notice all the beauty of it and those who can't enjoy good weather right now, don't be upset - it's only the beginning!
I wish you all to have spring in your souls, warmth and light in your hearts, besides - lots and lots of happiness and love!

Prudential Agrees to Buy A.I.G
Prudential of Britain said Monday that it had agreed to buy American International Group’s life insurance business in Asia in a deal valued at $35.5 billion.
The sale of American International Assurance, which is based in Hong Kong and is commonly known as A.I.A., would lead to the biggest repayment yet toward the more than $180 billion that the U.S. government has invested in A.I.G. as part of a huge series of bailouts. The Federal Reserve Bank of New York, which holds preferred shares in A.I.A., would receive the first $16 billion in proceeds from a sale.
With a takeover of A.I.A., Prudential would become the indisputable leader in Asia. Prudential said the combined group would be the leading life insurer in Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand and the Philippines and the leading foreign life insurance business in China and India.
A 162-year-old company — which is not related to Prudential Financial in the United States — the British Prudential already draws a large part of its revenue from Asia, with more than 11 million policyholders in 13 markets.
“We are combining the two strongest international life insurers in Asia,” Tidjane Thiam, chief executive of Prudential, said in a conference call Monday to announce the deal.
Acquiring A.I.A. accelerates a strategy outlined by Mr. Thiam to increase the firm’s revenue in Asia sharply. The region is considered one of the fastest-growing markets for life insurance, thanks to a culture of saving and increasing affluence in many countries.
“Transformational is an overused word,” Mr. Thiam said, “but this deal is transformational.” He noted that in 2008, 44 percent of new profit for Prudential came from Asia; if A.I.A. and Prudential had combined in 2009, the figure would have been 60 percent. That geography, he said, promises “sustainable growth for years to come.”
Prudential said that the new company would assume the name Prudential, have headquarters and be incorporated in Britain and be traded on the London Stock Exchange with American Depository Receipts traded on the New York Stock Exchange.
That said, the A.I.A. brand is not set to disappear. “We like good brands and we tend not to kill them unnecessarily,” Mr. Thiam said. “A.I.A. is a strong brand.”
Once the deal is complete, the company said, it intends “in due course” to seek a dual primary-listing on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.
“This transaction offers the opportunity to bring together two leading companies, positioning the combined group to capture the future growth opportunity in Asia,” Prudential said.
Under the terms of the deal, Prudential would pay about $25 billion in cash and about $10.5 billion in a combination of stock, preferred shares and convertible preferred shares. The company said it would obtain the cash for the deal through a $20 billion rights issue and $5 billion in senior debt.
The rights issue must be approved by shareholders, and the deal faces other regulatory approvals. Prudential said it anticipated that the rights issue would take place in May and that the transaction would close in the third quarter.
Several analysts downgraded Prudential shares on Monday.
“It’s going to be enormously dilutive,” ING analyst Kevin Ryan told Reuters, speaking of the rights issue. “No one knows exactly what A.I.A. contains or how profitable it is, or how it overlaps with Pru’s existing businesses.”
Prudential first approached A.I.G. last year, but it was rebuffed because its offer was too low, according to people briefed on the matter.
A.I.A., founded in 1919 and one of A.I.G.’s oldest divisions, is widely considered one of the top businesses within A.I.G. The division has about 20 million policyholders throughout Asia, served by 23,000 employees and 300,000 agents. It has customers in Australia, Brunei, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Macao, Malaysia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.
According to Prudential, A.I.A. had an operating profit of $1.438 billion after tax in the financial year ending Nov. 30, 2009, based on unaudited figures.

Spencer Tunick Australia
Spencer Tunick Australia – Spencer Tunick, the man known for taking photographs of naked people, has lost his clothes.
Tunick arrived in Australia from Hawaii last night ahead of next week’s Sydney Opera House installation, but his luggage has gone missing.
Tunick says he’s devastated by the airline bungle.
“I am truly the emperor with no clothes,” Tunick said.
“I am so depressed.”
Tunick says he’s concerned that his camera equipment won’t turn up in time for the March 1 installation, and he will now have to spend his time sourcing speciality camera equipment.
“As an artist, it’s going to cost more than they could ever repay me to locate my equipment and my clothes,” he said.
“Just a lot more work when I should be concentrating on the installation. I’m hoping Qantas and Hawaiian Airlines will find my f****in’ luggage.
“Obviously, I just want to be contacted by someone higher up to say they’re searching for it.”

Sex Offender Arrested in Chelsea King Case
registered California sex offender has been arrested in connection with the disappearance of a 17-year-old girl who vanished last week and is still missing. Police arrested John Albert Gardner III in connection with the disappearance of Chelsea King.
Police said physical evidence led them to arrest Gardner three days after the teen vanished.
King, of Poway, disappeared from Rancho Bernardo Community Park on Thursday, Feb. 25. Volunteers are continuing to search the park area and nearby Lake Hodges. The focus of the search for King has been focused on the park area.
Gardner (left) was arrested on a city street in Escondido on Sunday. Investigators said he was being questioned about the King disappearance, but he is also a suspect in the Dec. 27 disappearance of a jogger in the same park. He is also a suspect, police said, in the disappearance of 14-year-old Amber Dubois who vanished while walking to Escondido High School in 2009.
As of late Sunday, no charges had been filed against Gardner.
"This investigation is ongoing and specific criminal charges are still being determined," Sheriff Bill Gore told reporters.
Brent and Kelly, Chelsea's parents, reported her missing after she failed to return from a jog in the park. Her car was found in the park parking lot. Her cell phone was found inside the car, police reports said.

Kim kardashian in high school Pictures
It has been a few days for celebrity high school pictures. Kim Kardashian obviously had a life before she became more famous. Below is Kim Kardashian in high school. She certainly looks different now, but she is still recognizable. Below is a picture of Kim Kardashian wearing a bikini in high school.
I wonder what she was thinking in this picture? She was obviously not famous yet. I wonder how they 'decided' to become famous -- those Kardashians.
Kim Kardashian still has a penchant for dressing skimpily. I guess she came by that honestly.
Lady Gaga in High School Pictures
Lady Gaga has become famous for her outfits which she designs herself?? The pop sensation leaves many people wondering, what was she like before the fame? You’d be pretty surprised, but Lady Gaga was pretty vanilla at one point.? Now two photos from her high school yearbook have appeared. One is a teen aged Gaga, who then was still going by her real name Stefani Germanotta, the other photo is Germanotta as a child before a piano. Both photos come from the 2004 Convent of the Sacred Heart School yearbook.
Personally, I think Lady Gaga looked much better in high school. I’m probably one of the few people who dislikes Lady Gaga, but I’d be more impressed if she had a little less style and a little more substance. I know that will probably piss a few people off, but I just feel she is a very clever product of marketing. Kudos for her for figuring out a gimmick that works. Only time will tell if it will last over time.

50 kilometers is how many miles
Why is cross-country skiing being featured in the preview for today? A couple of reasons: It's one of only two events today, and it features guys skiing 50 kilometers as fast as they can. That's a little over 31 miles, on skis. Pretty impressive. The medal favorites are Lukas Bauer of the Czech Republic, Maxim Vylegzhanin of Russia and Alexander Legkov of Russia.
Hockey: If you can go by the feeling on the streets here in Vancouver, the confidence of the entire country rides on today's gold-medal men's matchup between the U.S. and Canada. The two teams already have played once at these Games, with the U.S. winning 5-3. Look for a highly motivated Canadian team to hit the ice today, with a raucous crowd supporting then. If the U.S. can come weather the first period and come out of it tied or ahead, they may just be able to pull off another upset.
Closing Ceremony: The Games officially come to an end tonight with the closing ceremony. Many people are expecting an appearance by Celine Dion, representatives from Sochi, Japan, site of the 2014 Winter Games, will take part, and the betting lines here expect appearances from everyone from the aforementioned Dion and William Shatner to the more obscure Bret "the Hitman" Hart and Chris Jericho. Either way, expect a lot of dancing and singing as many of the athletes get one last moment in the spotlight before returning to the relative obscurity of their non-Olympic lives.
